What a weekend!

I bet it wasn't as crazy as mine... After shopping for dad's gift early saturday morning i was at home feeling quite organised and comfortable, the house didn't look to bad and mum and dad were off enjoying there fossicking weekend until sunday arvo.
Rob, Nic and the kids popped over to grab some wood for their gift and still all was well. As they were leaving the idea popped into our head to put a nice treatment on dad's outdoor setting! "Great idea!" we all said, "i'll pop into Bunnings and get some, see you soon..." Rob said. So it was that afternoon Rob and I set the table up and proceeded to 'Linseed-Oil' it into glory...that is until the table started to look and dry into a very ominous BLACK.
We pushed on seeing as half the table couldn't be done, and further stressed as the table looked worse, and worse, and worse until after it had been left to dry for an hour or so - and looked like it had been through a fire!
We were beside ourselves, here is dad's rather expensive setting, and we've put it through a fire. It looked absolutely awful and we stressed off our heads...
So a salvage plan was put into action immeadiately. A power-sander was found, along with an emmense amount of 80grade sandpaper and away we went. It was later joined by Rob's power-sander and the table was attacked well into the evening...and started on again the next day! Eventually we found some colour in the wood that we liked and could use and so after much sanding and 2 more coats of linseed oil the table was recovered, and it looked sensational! More like it should be in the dining room than out on the patio...
Needless to say, we were relieved and dad loves it...
Now he just needs to do the chairs...!

Glad you put this up on your blog, it was monumental to say the least!
The photo's don't do the 'ash look' justice, and where is the photo of you crying under the table?!?
I think it's upto Kate and Marty to do the chairs now!!!
Rob
I don't think Dad will want me to go near his chairs, if you consider my dining chairs have been half-covered for over a year!
Well done on saving a VERY bad job- lucky you didn't start that on the Sunday or you would have been in trouble! Did you put on some fast funky music when you were finishing it, like on the TV Reno Shows?
x Kate
At any time did you consider Ebay for a replacment?
no, we didn't think of ebay.
we did consider burning the chairs though...
