Mt Baw Baw
Published August 27, 2006 by Sim inWhat a day at the snow! I was up at 5am Saturday morning, finished packing spare clothes and headed off to our meeting place in the Werribee Baptist Church carpark for 6am. Once all had arrived we sorted out who was in who's car and i trekked off with 3 kids and myself in the car. After a boring 1.5hrs of freeway and normal road, we got to experience 1.5hrs of mountain roads - winding, tight and amazing scenery!! What fun it is driving those kinds of roads in a convoy of 5 other cars, really cool.
We arrived in the carpark of Mt Baw Baw at around 9.30am and sorted out a plan...stuff around until 12 where we'd break for lunch, then stuff around till 4:30 when the park closed.
Simple plan, lots of fun.
The moment they were released, all 20+ kids ran straight to the toboggan and play snow area (pic on right, but with more snow...) and took over, starting an enourmous snowball fight which lasted a long time! Mix in some snow wrestling and a frisbee and we quickly filled the 2hrs before lunch...
After that we headed off to check out what ski runs (if any) were open, we found two, small runs (100m) that ran opposite each other, ending in roughly the same area. Lifts were open, but the queue was rather large, and we walked to the top quicker than those taking the lift anyway!
Not really having the room for all of us to stuff around in, we decided to push past the back of the ski run and explore the higher areas of the mountain ourselves. another 80m up the hill we found a nice area of REAL snow that was large enough for some games etc... This is where we set up the gauntlet run and built a few snowmen etc. Another snowball fight or two later it was about 2:30 and some were tiring out. We pushed on further up the hill and found a nice fresh slope, empty of people at the top of a ski lift...perfect for tobogganing! After sending a few guinea pigs down, we sussed out the quick spots and the slight bumps and rises, then set about creating a nice jump. We pulled out a nice log and wedged it into the snow as the basis for an awesome snow jump, with a 1.5m drop after it...we weren't really sure whether it would work until they got impatient and started sending people down while it was still under construction! We soon found out that it would work when the first test-driver kaned down the 80m slope, hit the jump and was airborne for 2m before landing...!!!! Upon that test, it began with records being broken until some were reaching the 3m+ mark. Highly amusing as person after person stacked or missed... And then then day was over, time to head home. After a long drive back and a macca's stop all went home tired and sore. But it was oh so worth it!
hopefully some more photos to come!

You took guinea pigs to Mt Baw Baw so you could push them down a hill?!
of course...!
i thought everyone did that. My mistake, next time we'll use young children. :)
preferably someone else's Sim and not your neices and nephews!!!

Hmm, I'll remember this next time you offer to take our kids to Kids Digs... that big slide is very similar to a ski run...
